It is practically standard for vehicle manufacturers today to have an app for the car which aims to simplify drivers’ lives. AMAG, the largest car dealer in Switzerland, also offers this kind of service – with numerous functions such as refuelling without your wallet, smart parking or booking a garage appointment for the Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, CUPRA and VW Commercial Vehicles brands. Via a free adapter, the app can use the latest vehicle data, which enables further services – including precise trip analyses.
In short, you have your car under complete control at all times using the app. Charles Nguela also wanted to test how useful this kind of ‘helper’ is in everyday life. The comedian has been driving the Škoda Enyaq from AMAG since 2021 and is currently using the app a lot. His first conclusion is: ‘I like the AMAG app a lot. It doesn’t matter what type of car you own, the options in the app are practical and clever.’
As a self-employed person, Nguela uses the option of being able to categorise all trips the most – in other words, being able to separate them into private or business trips. The latter also includes all trips to his gigs throughout Switzerland, for example upcoming trips to Visp VS, Bern and Arosa GR in December. The AMAG app replaces manually documenting the routes and automatically enters the journeys travelled, including duration, distance and start and end point. Nguela says that he always has an overview of all his business trips thanks to this tool. ‘The journey log book is really worth its weight in gold, as it saves me time and hassle at the end of the year. I can export the data and enter it on my tax return and even submit it.’
The tool is also useful for repeat business trips: ‘For example, if I register my work address and my home address in the app, it automatically recognises the trip as a business trip and classifies it accordingly.’ The app can also be used for private travel – for example, if you are planning a longer road trip – as it allows you to combine several trips in one day into one big journey.
‘All in all, it takes a bit of practice to learn the different functions,’ summarises Nguela. ‘But it’s not that difficult.’ He says that he also quickly got the hang of all the tools dealing with electromobility. The app helps you, for example, to find the nearest charging station – and also to pay for the electricity immediately without using cash. The current daily charging rate can be found on the map in the home screen. Nguela: ‘The app brings together everything I need – fuel card, statistics, charging stations and receipts – it’s incredibly practical!’
The Drive Score is available for all app users. It can help improve users’ driving style in terms of sustainability, as it measures parameters such as acceleration, braking and cornering behaviour. The AMAG app uses these parameters to generate a score for each trip, displayed on a scale of 1 to 100. This score can then be compared over time – including with other users of the AMAG app
It’s quite a fun tool that Charles Nguela also uses from time to time. It’s clear to him that the app is suitable for all kinds of drivers precisely because of its wide range of features. ‘I would really recommend the app to anyone,’ he says. ‘Once you’ve integrated it into your everyday driving, you won’t want to do without ever again!’
