What to Do in a Car Accident

Even if you hopefully never experience it yourself: a car accident happens quickly. Therefore, here are the most important rules in an accident:

1. Keep calm.

2. Secure the scene of the accident – turn on the hazard warning lights, put on the high-visibility vest, set up the puncture triangle.

3. Get a complete overview.

4. Give help – if necessary, call the emergency centre on 144, Rega on 1414 or the fire brigade on 118. Across Europe, you can reach the emergency services on 112. Then give first aid.

5. Inform the police if necessary – in the event of personal injury or major damage to property, it is important to inform the police. In Switzerland under 117, throughout Europe under 112.

6. Document the accident and its course – use the European Accident Protocol, take photos of the situation, vehicle and driver’s licenses with your smartphone and make a note of witnesses.

7. Organise breakdown assistance for the vehicle – Totalmobil! Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Helpline: +41,848,024,365.

8. Claim report to AMAG – report the damage to your vehicle to us. We take care of the complete claim handling with your insurance and repair according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

🦌 Wildlife accidents are particularly common in autumn – what should be done?

Autumn increases the risk of wildlife accidents. Deer, deer, and wild boar are particularly active at dusk and in the early morning hours, especially during the rutting season. Even frightened animals can unexpectedly run onto the road and cause a collision. Behaving correctly after a wildlife accident protects not only the animal, but also you – and this is required by law. The same applies, by the way, if you avoid an animal and only your vehicle has been damaged.

✅ How to avoid wildlife accidents

Adjust your pace: Drive slower in wildlife areas, especially at dusk and at night, giving you more time to react.

Pay attention to warning signs: Pay attention to signs of wildlife and drive there with special care.

Use high-beam headlamps: High-beam headlamps help to detect animals early on when the road is clear. Be careful not to dazzle other road users.

Don’t honk: Honking can frighten animals and drive them straight onto the road – the risk increases.

🛑 Do the right thing in the event of an accident

Stay calm and proceed step by step:

1. Secure the vehicle: Turn on the hazard warning lights, put on the high-visibility vest and set up the warning triangle.

2. Inform the authorities: Call the police or the responsible wild hat on tel. 117 and wait on the spot.

3. Do not touch the animal: Do not approach the injured animal – it could become dangerous.

4. Report a claim: Report the claim directly online to your AMAG. We will be happy to assist you with the claim settlement with your insurance company.

Notification of an accident is not only important for animal welfare, it is also legally obligatory. Anyone who does not report a wildlife accident risks a criminal conviction under the Animal Welfare Act.

💡 Note: For smaller wildlife such as birds or amphibians there is no obligation to report fatal collisions.
