Exterior design

VW Golf exterior: Visibly dynamic. Perceptible golf.

The Golf 8 is 4.28 metres long, 1.79 metres wide and 1.46 metres high. The exterior appearance of the VW Golf is characterised by clear lines and a timeless design. The new, dynamic design includes a low-slung front, narrow radiator grille and LED matrix headlights with their four-eye design, as well as the redesigned Volkswagen logo. The body is aerodynamically optimised and thus offers the lowest aerodynamic drag to date.

Interior style

Digital interior space of the VW Golf

The interior of the VW Golf impresses with high-quality materials and well thought-out design. Clear instruments and intuitive controls create a comfortable and ergonomic environment. Particularly striking is the fully digital driver cockpit of the VW Golf with its large display landscape. The luggage compartment volume of 380 litres can be expanded to up to 1,237 litres with the rear seat folded down.

Further details about the VW Golf

The Golf 8 was launched with the following engines in 2019: 1.5 TSI with 130 and 150 hp, 1.5 eTSI with 48-volt mild hybrid and 150 hp, and the 2.0 TDI with 115 and 150 hp respectively. Its engine technology is characterised by efficiency and environmental friendliness.

The Golf is a pioneer in technology. It offers innovative features such as a digital cockpit, advanced connectivity options like We Connect and state-of-the-art infotainment systems that take the driving experience to a new level.

With a plethora of assistance systems, the VW Golf sets standards in terms of safety. These include adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist and Emergency Braking Assist, which make driving more comfortable and safer.

Trendline: Trendline was the basic equipment for the VW Golf.

Comfortline: The Comfortline includes more extras than the Trendline such as comfort seats, alloy wheels and pedestrian monitoring with emergency braking function.

Highline: The Golf Highline was the luxury variant of the popular passenger car, including alloy wheels, xenon headlights, front sport seats and more.

Golf: The Trendline, Comfortline and Highline equipment lines have been replaced by Golf, Life, Style and the sporty R-Line. The Golf line offers the basic equipment, which has been significantly expanded compared to the Trendline. New features include Lane Assist, multifunction steering wheel, an 8.25-inch infotainment system, mobile services such as We Connect and more.

Life: The Life equipment line goes beyond the Golf line in terms of equipment and offers comprehensive networking and ambient lighting. It includes as standard 16-inch alloy wheels, an exterior ambient lighting with logo projection, a smartphone charging interface, front and rear centre armrests, chrome trim around the air vents, lumbar supports and much more.

Style: The Style equipment line builds on Golf and Life. It includes, among other things, 17-inch alloy wheels, additional chrome details on the exterior, sport seats with ArtVelours seat centre panels, 32 colours for interior ambient lighting and the innovative Travel Assist assistance system.

R-Line: The R-Line embraces sporty design and optional diversity and horsepower. The Golf R has 320 hp. It is an extension of the Golf and Style equipment lines and also features a diffuser in the rear, Top sport seats with integrated headrests, interior ambient lighting in 32 colours, sport suspension, progressive steering, black headlining, aluminium shift lever knob, multifunctional steering wheel with perforated leather and much more.

The VW Golf is one of the most successful and well-known cars from Volkswagen. The story surrounding the naming of the bestseller is all the more exciting. The buyer Hans-Joachim Zimmermann worked for Volkswagen from 1965 to 1995 and was also chairman of the Wolfsburg Riding and Driving Association. Horst Münzner, one of the directors of Volkswagen in 1973, was very fond of Mr Zimmermann’s horse called Golf. A few days after a conversation between the two men on the riding arena, the name Golf appeared on the rear of the new VW prototype.

In 1974, the success story of the VW Golf got underway. When designing the new model, VW focused on corners and edges compared to the hemispherical design of the Beetle model. The VW Golf impressed with water cooling, front engine and front-wheel drive. Two years after the start of production, the millionth Golf came off the production line.

To date, over 35 million cars of this model have been sold, making the VW Golf one of the best-selling cars in the world. With each new model, there have also been significant changes. While the Golf 2 was about more space in 1983, safety was a priority in 1991. The Golf 3 was the first Golf with an airbag. Since then, the six-speed gearbox has become standard and the vehicle features a laser-welded body and automatic start-stop system. The VW Golf is now being produced in the eighth generation, including a digital cockpit and autonomous driving capability.

In 2014, Volkswagen introduced the e-Golf, a more environmentally-conscious version of its bestseller – equipped with an electric motor. In the same year, a version of the Golf 7 with plug-in hybrid engine was introduced. For lovers of the sporty variant, the Golf GTI was developed, making its debut in 1976.

Due to its robust design, durability and reliability, the VW Golf is ideally suited as a second-hand car. Are you interested in a second-hand VW Golf? AMAG offers a wide range of second-hand Golf models.
